What to Expect When You're Expecting...Breast Cancer

When retired psychologist Katie Snyder found a  golf ball in her breast, she didn't realize she'd soon be entertaining her whole posse at every step along her 17-month road to vanquishing Tilly the tumor. Now her goal is to do the same for all newly diagnosed breast cancer patients and their families. 

Her forthcoming book, What to Expect When You're Expecting Breast Cancer, is a giggle-a-page deep dive into the details of her chemotherapy, surgery, radiation, and more chemotherapy, so you'll know what to expect along your road. You will learn from her exactly what those procedures are really like from the patient’s point of view. She's been up for adventure since her pioneering days as one of the second class of women admitted to Yale. (Cancer: definitely an adventure.) She got her Ph.D. at the University of Michigan. But it's her wit and playfulness that make you want her giving you the lowdown on what to expect. 

As she says, no one expects breast cancer until they find a lump, and after they find it, cancer is exactly what they expect. You might expect it to be difficult to listen to—or read about—the details, but Katie (as she prefers to be called) manages to infuse humor into her stories, so they become surprisingly fun to listen to.
